William (Bill) Joseph Ambrisco died Friday, September 8, 2017, at University Hospitals and Clinics, Palliative Care Unit. Ambrisco made his business career in insurance in Iowa City, beginning with the S.T. Morrison Co. He was active in the insurance industry on the local, state and national level, serving as President of AW Welt Ambrisco Insurance in Iowa City, the Independent Insurance Agents of Johnson County and the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa. He served as a National Director of the Independent Insurance Agents of America. In 1977, he achieved the professional insurance designation, Charter Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He was a Director of the Iowa City Area Development Group (ICAD) and a Director and President of the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce. Notable awards earned during his lifetime were Iowa City Sertoma Club’s “Person of the Year Award”; Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa, “Agent of the Year Award”; The General Will J. Hayek Award in 1995 (Presented to a Military Veteran for Community Service), and induction to the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame in 2010. Click here for a link to his full obituary.
