DUANE MONSON

2018

Duane Monson retired from his distinguished 42-year career in the insurance industry in 2002. At the time of his retirement, Duane was the county mutual manager and an independent agent.

Duane was born in Manning, Iowa, and following graduation from Manilla High School, he attended business school in Omaha, Nebraska.

Duane’s career in the insurance industry began in 1960 when at the age of 23, he accepted the position as secretary/manager of the Home Mutual Association of Carroll County, Iowa. In 1962, Duane established The Manning Insurance Agency and in 1992, he became co-owner of the Manilla Insurance Agency. In 2002, Duane retired after selling his agency to two employees and turned over the Mutual management to another Mutual employee.

In the insurance industry, Duane maintained a focus on the needs of rural Iowans and the changing agricultural community. Duane was very active in supporting the Mutual Insurance Association of Iowa, serving as president in 1998. Following his retirement in 2004, Duane was the recipient of the Mutual Insurance of Iowa P.R.I.M.E. award.

Duane has always been active in the Manning, Iowa, community. He has been involved with and supported causes sponsored by the Rotary Club, Manning Hospital, the Manning Utility and Zion Lutheran Church. Duane’s wife Janice worked in the agency side-by-side with him for over 30 years. Duane and Janice’s 60-year marriage has been blessed with sons Brett and Bruce, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

After wintering in Arizona for several years in the early portion of their retirement, Duane and Janice now live fulltime in Manning where they continue to volunteer for local causes and organizations, enjoy their extended family and friends and support the Iowa State Cyclones
