Project Description

DREW CAULK

2019 Drake University Scholarship Recipient

Drew Caulk is a second-year student at Drake University with a major in Actuarial Science, a minor in Data Analytics, and a concentration in Risk Management and Insurance. While originally from Chicago, he came to Drake in August of 2017 and will be graduating a year early in May of 2020.

Drake has offered him a multitude of experiences in the actuarial and statistical fields, notably participating in the Traveler’s 2018 Actuarial Case Competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in an actuarial study titled ‘Data Quality Challenge’ in the winter of 2019 in which he spent a few months in a hands-on opportunity to model data to achieve predictive results on car insurance claims. Drew is especially passionate about not only cutting-edge blend of data analytics with traditional pricing.

This year, Drew will be spending his summer in Montpelier, Vermont working as an actuarial intern with National Life. He is also participating in The Actuarial Foundation’s Modeling the Future Challenge of 2019 as a student intern developing data for high school students, while also presenting on the nature of actuarial science to students in his hometown. Next fall he’s seeking to become a tutor for students in the Des Moines area through The Actuarial Foundation. Once he graduates, he hopes to return to Chicago and achieve an ASA designation by the end of 2021.
